Jehan Numa Palace Hotel in Bhopal

Jehan Numa Palace Hotel in Bhopal

Staying at the Jehan Numa Palace in Bhopal was our first visit to a hotel since Coronavirus upended all our lives, so it would have been a memorable event just for that fact alone. But the hotel is so stunning, and the welcome and reception from the staff so warm, that it was an all-round wonderful visit.

One cannot gloss over the fact that we are all still living in a pandemic, but the protocols in the hotel were 100% reassuring and I certainly never felt uneasy for even a second.

The property is absolutely gorgeous, and has been lovingly and impeccably restored to its former glory as a 19th century residence. The hotel oozes quiet elegance, which is complemented by charming, unobtrusive service from the staff.

There are gardens and shady walkways, magnificent trees and a tempting-looking pool…but Covid means that the pool is sadly not in use at the moment.

There was a totally unexpected surprise when I was exploring the early-morning gardens – horses being exercised, around a track inside the hotel garden. Too special!

I didn’t realise what the track was, until…
—I saw this! What a delightful surprise.

We spent just one night at this beautiful property, and only had breakfast there, so I can’t honestly speak about the restaurants, but certainly the breakfast buffet was sumptuous.

In the interests of full disclosure, we were travelling with friends who know the owners of the hotel, but we paid our own way and no-one knows that I blog or review.

Our stay was brief, but utterly delightful.

There are stunning photos, giving a glimpse of princely Bhopal history
