This review is aimed specifically at readers already in Bangkok, or who are going to be there before 3 December.
Please go and see the excellent exhibition “Hermès in the making” at Iconsiam, up on the 8th floor. Trust me!
The exhibition offers a fascinating behind-the-scenes glimpse into one of the most iconic luxury brands in the world, and all the classic Hermès products are there for you to see and study. And drool over!
A silk scarf is screen-printed while you watch – now honestly, it can’t get more iconic than that, can it?
Craftsmen and women explain and demonstrate how they make saddles, repair handbags, or design jewellery, to select just a few products.
The exhibition is oh-so-stylishly set out – well, it would be, wouldn’t it?
There are fluent French and English speaking young Thais to help with explanations and questions.
A gorgeous way to spend an afternoon.
But hurry! It is only for a week.
There is no entrance charge, by the way. And absolutely no push to make you shop.
Fab people watching, too. When we went on the opening day, there were polite, gorgeous Thai university students intently watching the demonstrations, and lots of lovely arty-filmy types wafting around.
