MY GRANDPARENT’S HOUSE in Bangkok

MY GRANDPARENT’S HOUSE in Bangkok

Getting to this delightful Bangkok riverside café is half the fun.

First, head to Princess Mother’s Memorial Park, and then stroll through the pretty Chinese shine to a little wooden house on the bank of the Chao Phraya River. We visited the shrine on the way, and it is definitely worth it.

We sat on these stools, below, enjoying the breeze and the view.

The location is gorgeous, right on the river, which means that you have a constant source of entertainment, watching boats and ferries pass by.

The property is absolutely charming and is beautifully maintained.

The house, which is over 90 years old, was originally an office for a fish sauce company, Ruang Thong.

The current owners, the 4th generation of the same family, have preserved the vintage feel, and it feels as though you are stepping into a home, rather than a café, where time has stood still.

We had lunch, cold drinks and followed it up with an elegantly served affogato.

But it was affogato with a slight twist.

Apologetically they told me they were out of vanilla ice cream, so would coffee ice cream do instead?

It did – like so:

The usual courteous, efficient Thai service.

A lovely place.

We paid our bill, and no-one there knew that I blog & review.
