We know the new owners of Walkersons, from when we used to live in South Africa 20+ years ago.
Incidentally, we had driven past the property many times during our time in SA, driving to and from the Kruger Park, but hadn’t ever visited. So this was a fun discovery for us.
And now onto my review.
So, yes, how was our one night stay in Walkersons?
Absolutely wonderful.
It is a delightfully located property, within a huge estate, and with fishing ponds and stables and zebras roaming on the hills, what’s not to love? Add in cosy, beautiful furnished and decorated rooms – with a functioning fireplace AND an electric blanket, oh joy! – and delicious food, and I repeat, what’s not to love?
We arrived in time for afternoon tea on the verandah – huge scones with clotted cream and jam.

A post-tea-pre-drinks walk around the property, admiring the well-maintained fish ponds which are fringed with lovely trees.

Drinks in the bar, a delicious dinner from a very comprehensive set menu. A great night’s sleep, courtesy that toasty-warm electric blanket.
Next day, I was up early for a pre-breakfast walk – after coffee in my room from the Nespresso machine – and made the acquaintance of the horses and resident ducks.
Like so:

The ducks were having none of my attempts at being friendly 🙂
After breakfast, 2 of us went for a long walk up the hill behind the hotel where, oh joy of joys, we could get up close and personal (well, relatively speaking) with the resident zebras:

I give you (above) the happy smile of a young man seeing his first ever African wild animal in the wild!
And (below) your blogger, who has been privileged to see many zebras, but is still super chuffed by them 🙂

The service was uniformly excellent and the staff charming and friendly.
The decor is elegant.
Totally recommended.

Oh yes, forgot to mention – there’s even a helipad.

I left reluctantly, and would’ve been oh-so-happy to spend days there, reading, walking, relaxing, and (obviously) hanging out with the zebras.
