New Delhi already has some jaw-dropping monuments – think the Red Fort, Purana Qila, Humayun’s Tomb, Safdarjung’s Tomb – to name but a few, and now we are blessed with the country’s first sunken museum.
The “first in the country” moniker is actually not that important (though it’s a fun fact) because this museum, linking 3 major historical sites underground, is stunning in its own right.
The “first in the country” bit is just a bonus.
The museum is absolutely breathtaking, a fabulous addition to the city’s history, constructed with all the elegance and artistic sympathy that the Aga Khan Trust for Culture brings to every project they undertake.
It is also pretty cool to be able to access different sites underground, I must admit.
I have visited the museum twice, and will return. It is so brilliantly done, and so well-conceived, that there is something to be learned each time.
There are films and animated displays, explaining the architecture and culture of the Emperor Humayun.
I’m going to share just a few photos to whet your appetite, but trust me, you HAVE to go see this for yourself. My photos do NOT do the museum justice!

The construction of the tomb is brilliantly explained in panels (below)…

…and also videos (below)
I paid my own way, and no-one at the museum had the faintest idea that I blog and review.

100% recommended.

Superbe. Merci.
